Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, Chairman and Chief Executive of Chisco Transport, has declined the honor of being selected as Mayor Ndi-Igbo in Lagos.
In a press release, Dr. Anyaegbu expressed his gratitude for the recognition but cited the politically charged nature of the position as the reason for his withdrawal.
“I am committed to fostering peace, collaboration, and strengthening bonds, which I believe is not aligned with the political aspects of the Mayor Ndi-Igbo position,” Dr. Anyaegbu stated in the press release.
The ceremony to confer the title on Dr. Anyaegbu was initially scheduled to take place on December 16, 2024, at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island Lagos.
The event was organized by the Coalition of Concerned Igbo Business Community and the United Igbo Elders Worldwide.
Dr. Anyaegbu reaffirmed his respect for Ndi-Igbo and the unity of Nigeria, expressing his willingness to support the goals of Ndi-Igbo in other capacities.
He regretted any inconvenience his withdrawal may have caused and appreciated the efforts of the planning committee and other dedicated members.
