JULY 26, 2024

An explosion, suspected to be a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED), detonated at the popular Buni Yadi Market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, Nigeria on Friday, July 26, 2024 around 12:30 pm.

The incident resulted in injuries to a young girl.

Ali Hassan, a resident of Buni, informed Channels Television about the explosion via telephone.

Captain Muhammad Shehu, spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incident.

He stated that another IED was discovered and successfully detonated by the Army.

Captain Shehu also mentioned that the injured girl was currently receiving treatment at a health facility in Buni Yadi.

He emphasized that the incident was due to a planted IED, not a suicide bombing.

Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, has been severely affected by Boko Haram insurgents, who controlled the area for two years.
