[ICYMI] 2027: Calls for Jonathan’s return ‘looking for crisis’ — Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned that political actors pushing for former President Goodluck Jonathan to return to power in 2027 are “looking for crisis” and trying to drag the country into avoidable instability.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed ongoing campaigns for Jonathan to run a single four-year term, stressing that such a move would ignite unnecessary conflict in the polity.

“Those calling Jonathan back are not sincere. They are looking for crisis. They are the same people who abandoned him in 2015. Why are they now talking about bringing him back for one term? It is not about Jonathan, it is about their own selfish interest,” Wike said.

The former Rivers governor accused some politicians of exploiting public frustration for personal gain, instead of providing genuine solutions to the nation’s challenges.

He further warned against dragging Jonathan into what he described as “an unnecessary conflict,” noting that Nigerians should be wary of recycled agendas that undermine stability.

Wike urged political stakeholders to channel their energy into building strong democratic institutions rather than revisiting old battles that could divide the country.

“Nigerians must open their eyes. These are the same actors who betrayed Jonathan in 2015. Now, they think they can use him again to play games. It won’t work,” he added.

Jonathan has not declared any intention to run in 2027, but speculation around his possible comeback has grown in recent months, especially among some southern political blocs.
