I Pay My Cleaner N65k,30k Minimum Wage is Criminal -Oshiohmole

July 24, 2023 2 min read

Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiohmole, has described the 30,000 minimum wage as criminal.

Oshiohmole who spoke on Channels Television’s current affairs programme, Sunday Politics, monitored in Lagos said it’s a matter of conscience.

Oshiohmole who said there’s difference between policy documents and transforming it into reality, defended the President Bola Tinubu administration, that there’s no magic the president could perform in 56 days to ameliorate the suffering of over 200million people.

On what should be the minimum wage in view of the prevalent circumstances, Oshiohmole said; ” The N30,000 minimum wage is a criminal wage. I don’t think I pay any of my staff such wage. My cleaner who is the holder of primary school leaving certificate earns N65,000. Of course, my driver earns more because my life is in his hands and his job requires some expertise. It’s about conscience. I don’t think with what a permanent secretary earns presently, he can buy a new Peugeot 504. It is that poor.”

On the National Assembly offices when they took over in June, Oshiohmole explained that he was surprised that none of those who know could speak about the level of vandalisation at the National Assembly.

He said that virtually all the 109 offices were looted, adding that television sets, rugs, and other office equipment were carted away.
