A six-man mob has beaten a Naval Officer, M. Akingbohun to death.
Akingbohun, who was attached to the Navy Secondary School, Imeri in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State was reported by a friend of the deceased, Sunday Olaoluwa.
Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said the deceased was attacked on Monday during an altercation that arose from a minor motorcycle accident.
Odunlami-Omisanya said the suspects used iron and plank to beat the deceased.
She said he was confirmed dead at the hospital and the suspects had since been at large.
Chairman of Ose Local Government, Dennis Adekunle, who condemned the killing, assured the Naval authorities of cooperation of the community in dousing tension in the community.
Police at the scene of the incident
Adekunle, in a statement, begged Naval authorises in the school to apply minimum force while in search for the suspects.
It was gathered that the deceased was driving along the community when he splashed mud water on an okada rider and his passenger simply identified as Ayo.
The deceased was said to have parked and apologised to the passenger and the Okada rider, but his apology fell on deaf ears.
Witnesses said the Okada rider invited some hoodlums in the community to the scene and one of them hit the deceased on the head with an iron rod and he fell down.
The naval officer was rushed to the hospital in the town, but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Sources said the Okada rider was apprehended and handed over to the Police while the thugs that hit the deceased with the iron rod fled on hearing news of the death of the deceased.
However, some Naval officials have invaded Ido-Ani community in search of the fleeing hoodlums.
Witnesses said the presence of the Naval men turn the town to a ghost town as commercial activities were halted.
A source said many young men had fled to neighbouring communities to avoid arrest.
