GAVI Praises President on Local Vaccine Production

April 8, 2024 2 min read

The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its unwavering commitment to local vaccine manufacturing and enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery across the nation.

GAVI’s Chief Executive, Dr. Sania Nishtar, gave the commendation during her inaugural visit to Nigeria.

She also praised the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, and the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, for their dedication to improving health outcomes for Nigerians.

At a reception organised by the Federal Government and alliance partners to honour her, Nishtar emphasised Nigeria’s pivotal role in GAVI’s mission, saying the alliance was closely intertwined with Nigeria’s achievements in healthcare delivery.

Nishtar highlighted President Tinubu’s enthusiasm in GAVI’s plan to launch the African Countries Vaccine Manufacture Initiative later this year.

She applauded Nigeria’s strategic importance to GAVI and affirmed on-going support for President Tinubu’s initiatives to mobilise human resources for health.

Aina, who represented Prof. Pate, confirmed the release of Federal Government’s counterpart fund, signalling a strong commitment to fulfilling healthcare obligations.

He described Nishtar’s visit as a demonstration of robust support for Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system.

Nishtar held advocacy meetings with notable figures, including Sokoto State governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, the Sultan of Sokoto, and prominent traditional rulers from the North.
