The Lagos State Police Command has filed a three-count charge against Friday Onu for allegedly assaulting a female commercial bus driver, Mrs. Yetunde Amole, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos.

Onu was arrested after a video of him physically assaulting Amole went viral on social media.

According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on Monday, April 7, 2025, near the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

Onu was allegedly caught attempting to steal Amole’s car battery when she confronted him, leading to a violent attack.

The police outlined the charges as follows; Onu allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace by dragging Amole from her vehicle and tearing her shirt. This offense is punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

Onu allegedly attempted to steal a motor battery valued at N90,000, the property of Yetunde Amole, with intent to commit a felony. This offense is punishable under Section 406(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

Onu allegedly unlawfully assaulted Amole by hitting her on the face and back with his fists, causing her bodily harm. This offense is punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

“The Command condemns this act in the strongest terms and wishes to update the public on the actions already taken,” Hundeyin said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Assault is the intentional and voluntary act of causing someone to fear immediate and unlawful violence or sustain unlawful force without consent.

In Nigeria, assault charges can range from common assault to more serious offenses like grievous bodily harm or wounding.

The outcome of this case will serve as a reminder of the consequences of such actions.
