A devastating suicide bombing occurred in Konduga, Borno State, carried out by a woman allegedly affiliated with Boko Haram.

The attack targeted a gathering of anti-jihadist fighters and local hunters who have been supporting the Nigerian military in their efforts to combat extremist groups.

“We lost 20 people in the suicide attack which happened yesterday around 9:15 pm while our members were hanging out near the fish market,” said Tijjani Ahmed, the head of an anti-jihadist militia in Konduga district.

The explosion resulted in a significant loss of life, with many more injured. “Eighteen people died on the spot, while 18 others were injured. Two more died in hospital, raising the death toll to 20,” Ahmed stated.

The attack is a grim reminder of the ongoing violence in the region. Konduga, located about 40 kilometers from Maiduguri, has experienced repeated attacks by suicide bombers linked to Boko Haram.

The bomber reportedly disguised herself as a local heading to the fish market before detonating her explosives at the militia’s hangout.

“She detonated her explosives as soon as she reached the shed used by the militia fighters as a hangout,” said militia member Ibrahim Liman.

The aftermath of the attack saw a mass funeral for the victims, with many mourning the loss of life.
