The Ekiti State government has approved N2.7 billion for the construction and repair of selected road projects in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Additionally, the government has allocated N177 million for land clearing to support farming initiatives by interested youths across various Local Government Areas in the state.

On Tuesday, Commissioner for Information Taiwo Olatunbosun announced that these approvals were among the resolutions made during a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Olatunbosun revealed that N2 billion of the funds would be used to rehabilitate the De-Head to Faglo and Basiri Junction Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

“Rehabilitation of the road is expected to alleviate traffic congestion around Adebayo to Ekiti State University in Ado-Ekiti, boost socio-economic activities in the area, and enhance the security and quality of life for residents and property owners along the road,” he said.

He added that the rehabilitation of the road projects is expected to be delivered within the next twelve months.

The Commissioner also revealed that as part of measures of the administration to encourage youths in agriculture, a sum of N177 million was approved for the clearing of lands in Ikere, Emure, Moba, Ido-Osi and Ekiti West LGAs.

According to him, “the approval is part payment to clear 325 hectares of land for some youths from Ikere, Emure, Moba, Ido-Osi and Ekiti West Local Governments in the State to support ‘Youths In Agriculture’ initiative at their respective local government level.

“Through targeted initiatives, the administration aims to empower farmers in the state by collaborating with interested Local Government Areas to boost production along the value chain.

“A sum of N355,875,000.00 had earlier been approved for the project in the partnership between the State and the affected local governments.”

He added that the council also approved the sum of N229 million for the procurement of tractors and other farm machinery to empower farmers towards ensuring food security in the state.

“The approval is a demonstration of the unwavering resolve and commitment of the Oyebanji’s administration to transforming the Agriculture Sector through targeted initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and boosting production along the value chain,” the commissioner said.
