DSS Releases, Compensates Nura Idris Wrongfully Arrested Over Alleged Boko Haram Links

June 27, 2026 2 min read

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Nura Idris, a farmer and livestock rearer from Kaduna State, after an internal review cleared him of alleged links to Boko Haram terrorists .

DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi ordered Idris’s immediate release and approved a compensation package of N3 million to help him meet immediate needs and rebuild his business . The DG also pledged additional support to help Idris revive his farming and livestock enterprise .

Idris was initially arrested by another security agency in Suleja, Niger State, in June 2024 over alleged terrorist links before being transferred to DSS custody . However, a DSS investigation panel conducted a thorough review of the case and found no evidence to substantiate the allegations against him .

Receiving the compensation, Idris expressed gratitude to the DSS leadership, saying, “I thank the DGSS for his kindness. I was well treated in DSS custody and I pray that Allah rewards the DGSS immensely” . His father, Yusuf Idris, also thanked the DSS for what he described as compassion and generosity .

The release forms part of an internal review exercise initiated by the DSS last year to reassess inherited and prolonged detention cases and ensure that innocent individuals are not kept in custody unnecessarily . According to security sources, more than 30 cases have been reviewed under the initiative, with compensation payments exceeding N300 million .
