Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The announcement was made after a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the decision was made following wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.
Top APC chieftains received Governor Oborevwori, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
This development is seen as a strategic political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Oborevwori won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, but his decision to join the APC is expected to impact the state’s political dynamics.
The defection has sent shockwaves across the state, with many speculating about the implications for the upcoming elections.
As the Governor settles into his new party, it’s likely that his administration’s policies and priorities will be reevaluated in light of the APC’s agenda.
