Cameroon President, Paul Biya, set to contest another election in 2025 to become Africa longest serving leader

Founder of the Foreign Press Association Africa, Kennedy Wandera disclosed this on Thursday, citing news media, The EastAfrican.

The President is seeking for seventh term at the age of 93.

β€œCameroon is due to hold its next presidential election in 2025, longtime President Paul Biya will be 93. He has confirmed that he will contest.

“If he wins the election, and completes the new seven-year mandate, Biya will be 100 years in 2032.” The report reads

Biya, who has ruled Cameroon since 1982, has been Africa’s longest-serving leader for over two decades. His decision to run again has raised concerns about his health, ability to lead, and the country’s democratic future.

Critics argue that Biya’s advanced age and prolonged rule have contributed to the country’s political and economic stagnation citing the abuse on human rights

The opposition has vowed to challenge Biya’s candidacy, citing constitutional concerns and calling for generational change.

As Cameroon approaches the 2025 election, the international community watches closely, concerned about the implications of Biya’s re-election on the country’s democracy and future.
