Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aligning with the coalition platform ahead of future electoral contests.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, announced his decision on Tuesday at a political gathering held at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu.
Speaking at the event, he said the move was driven by a resolve to reposition the country and build a credible alternative for Nigerians.

“We are ending this year with hope that by 2026, we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said.

He added that the coalition would pursue democratic change through lawful means, stressing that efforts would be made to resist electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general election.

National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, and other party leaders were present at the event, underscoring the significance of Obi’s entry into the coalition-backed party.
