BREAKING: Ganduje Publicly Recognises Sanusi as Emir of Kano – First Time Since 2020 Deposition

May 5, 2026 1 min read

Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has publicly recognised Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs. Ganduje acknowledged Sanusi during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor of Kano, Murtala Sule Garo, at the Government House, Kano, on Tuesday.

The gesture, which drew loud applause from dignitaries, marks the first time Ganduje has openly recognised Sanusi in that capacity since their well-publicised fallout that led to Sanusi’s deposition in 2020.
