A renowned Nigerian politician and former presidential aide, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has died at the age of 72.

According to reports made available to TYT, Okupe had been critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise, battling a protracted illness suspected to be cancer.

Okupe had a distinguished career in politics, serving as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2022, he was appointed as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election, but was forced to step down following a court conviction over alleged money laundering.

Okupe’s health struggles began 16 years ago when he was first diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder. Despite his health challenges, Okupe remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics until his passing.
