A renowned Nigerian leader and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Edwin Clark, has died at the age of 97.

According to a statement released by his family, Clark passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Born in Kiagbodo, Delta State, Clark had a distinguished career in education and politics. He attended primary and secondary schools in Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene before furthering his studies at the Government Teacher Training College, which later became Delta State University, Abraka.

Clark worked briefly as a school teacher before traveling abroad to earn a law degree.

Clark’s political career spanned several decades, during which he worked with notable figures such as military Governor Samuel Ogbemudia and head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, between 1966 and 1975.

He was also a member of an advisory committee to the military governor of the Mid-Western Region province, David Ejoor, and served as Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975.

As chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Clark played a significant role in promoting the interests of the Niger Delta region.

His passing has been met with tributes and condolences from across Nigeria, celebrating his remarkable life and legacy.
