The paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away at the age of 91.

The revered monarch died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, family source told The Yoruba Times

Ọba Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential and longest-serving traditional rulers.

He was known for his wisdom, progressive ideals, and dedication to the prosperity and unity of the Ijebu people.

Tributes have started pouring in from political leaders, traditional institutions, and cultural groups across the country, describing the monarch as a rare gem and a father to many.

The nation has entered a moment of sober reflection with the passing of the elder statesmen— Ọba Adetona.
