Bauchi NLC Begs Govt to Monetise Palliatives

April 3, 2024 2 min read

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has begged the Bauchi State government to commence the payment of palliative packages to civil servants to cushion the hardship being experienced following the removal of fuel subsidy.

The Chairman of NLC Bauchi State chapter, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu, made the plea when he spoke with newsmen at the venue of the civil servant’s promotional examination on Saturday.

He said, “Civil servants in the state have been subjected to abject poverty following the removal of fuel subsidy and till date no special package from the state government.”

Shuaibu commended the state government for the compilation of the backlog of the promotion list of local government staff from 2019 to date.

Also, the Bauchi State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, after assessing conduct of the exercise disclosed that about 2000 civil servants from different cadres on grade level 08 and above sat for the 2023 Batch B promotional examination in the state.

He said the candidates exhibited a high sense of maturity during the exercise.

Adamu who explained that the state government was committed to providing a conducive environment for workers to become more result-oriented and compete favorably with their counterparts across the country, noted “the condition of service is being improved through the provision of rights and privileges, welfare packages, and working materials to ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance productivity.”
