Barca Legend Alves Pays Bail, to Leave Jail Over Rape Case

Former Brazil international footballer, Dani Alves, convicted of rape in Spain in February, has paid his bail of one million euros and can leave jail pending his appeal, a court said Monday.

A statement by the court reads: “We hereby inform you that the deposit of Daniel Alves’ bail has been registered in the accounts of the 21st section of the Barcelona Court.”

The 40-year-old father of two is expected to be freed for the first time in 14 months around 5:00pm local time.

A Spanish court on February 22 found the ex-Barcelona star, Alves guilty of raping a woman in a Barcelona night club.
