Akeredolu’s Camp in Disarray as Aiyedatiwa Moves to Name New Deputy Governor

The camp of associates of the late governor of Ondo State, Alakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu is said to be in disarray as the new governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is relegating the group in his consideration of a new deputy governor.

GWG.ng reports that the governor, in the circumstances, has the unique responsibility of nominating a new deputy governor to fill the vacancy that has now emerged.

It was learnt that Governor Aiyedatiwa has inclined himself to picking the new deputy governor from those who backed him during the political crisis that shadowed the ill-health of Akeredolu.

The choice it was gathered, may mean picking the new deputy governor from within the cabinet with the Chief of Staff, Olugbenga Ale and the Commissioner of Energy and Water Resources, Rasaq Obe among the major options.

Chief Ale is said to be especially favoured given that he is from Owo, hometown of former Governor Akeredolu, a move that could console the people of Owo having lost the number one position in the state.

However, another option for the Aiyedatiwa camp in choosing the new deputy governor could be to pick Obe, the commissioner for energy, given his yeoman job in exposing the alleged forgery of Akeredolu’s signature at the peak of the political crisis earlier in the month.

Besides, picking Obe could also help to neutralise the Akeredolu camp in the House of Assembly as it could force the Speaker of the House, Hon Olajidi Olamide, who was trenchant against Aiyedatiwa’s emergence as acting governor to vacate office.
