The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has raised concerns about the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in Yorubaland.

In a recent communique, the group emphasized the need for immediate action to tackle the security challenges.

Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, stated that despite the efforts of security agencies, “a lot still needs to be done to make the desired objectives on security to be achieved.” The group believes that “the current situation cannot be quelled by force of arms alone” and that strong policies on truth, justice, and fairness are necessary to ensure that no group constitutes a danger or threat to others.

The organization is calling for restructuring, stating that “Restructuring the country is capable of resolving socio-political and socio-economic challenges of the country.”

Afenifere urged the Presidency to send a Bill to the National Assembly for Restructuring the country, emphasizing that “the time for Restructuring is now.”

Additionally, Afenifere is advocating for the establishment of State Police, saying that “State Police must be established without further delay.”

The group called on President Bola Tinubu to forward an Executive Bill to the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the establishment of State Police.

Afenifere also recommended the use of modern technology, such as drones and close-circuit cameras, to enhance security. The organization’s demands are aimed at addressing the country’s security concerns and promoting socio-economic development.
