The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has called on the federal government to urgently address insecurity, implement economic reforms, and pursue constitutional restructuring.

Speaking on the need for security, Afenifere stressed the establishment of state police as a critical step to combat rising crime rates across the country. The group argued that giving state governments authority over policing would allow for a more localized and efficient response to criminal activities.

On the economic front, the organization acknowledged some improvements but urged the government to intensify measures to stabilize the naira, curb inflation, and create employment opportunities. Afenifere emphasized that sustained reforms were necessary to relieve Nigerians of the current economic pressures.

Regarding governance, the group renewed its call for constitutional restructuring to allow greater autonomy at the regional level. Afenifere highlighted that decentralizing authority is essential for addressing the needs of Nigeria’s diverse regions and ensuring equitable development.

The organization called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize these issues and take decisive action to implement the necessary changes, stressing that the reforms were crucial for national stability and progress.

No response has yet been issued by the presidency regarding Afenifere’s statements.
