Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has assured residents that his administration will ensure that all local government areas in the state reopen and resume full operations.

Adeleke gave the assurance on Thursday in Osogbo during a reception organized in his honour by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party’s state secretariat.

Local government activities in Osun have been grounded since February 17, 2025, following a political tussle between the PDP and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of the councils.

The crisis stems from conflicting court rulings. While the APC maintains that a February 10, 2025 judgment of the Akure Court of Appeal reinstated council officials elected on October 15, 2022, the same officials had earlier been sacked by a Federal High Court in Osogbo in November 2022.

Governor Adeleke, while addressing party supporters, reiterated his commitment to restoring normalcy, stressing that local governments are critical to grassroots governance and service delivery.

β€œWe will ensure our local governments are reopened and functional again. Governance must reach the people directly at the grassroots,” Adeleke said.

The governor also called for calm among party members and residents, assuring that the state government would act in line with democratic principles and the rule of law.
