An fatal accident occurred on Saturday along Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, resulting in loss of three lives while two others were injured.
The accident involved a Rio car and a Sino truck.
Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the tragic incident to the media in Abeokuta.
Providing details, Akinbiyi said that the accident occurred at 9:44 am and was caused by the Rio car driver’s excessive speed and inability to maintain control.
The location of the accident was near Day Waterman College and involved a black Rio car and a white Sino truck with registration numbers
AKD 827 DV and WDL 466 XA respectively.
The Rio car, carrying four church officials who were traveling from Oke-Aragbiji in Osun lost control, according to witnesses and veered off the road, hitting and uprooting a street light before colliding head-on with the cement-loaded truck.
“The truck was outbound Abeokuta.
“Instantly, the three men of God died due to the impact of the collision while the driver and the passenger in front were injured,” the witness said.
Akinbiyi also disclosed that the two injured persons were promptly taken to Ijaye General Hospital in Abeokuta to receive medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
He informed that both vehicles involved in the accident had been delivered to the Owode-Egba Divisional Police Command for further investigation.
Expressing his condolences, the Police spokesperson extended sympathies to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to refrain from driving at excessive speed.
Akinbiyi emphasized the importance of taking sufficient rest after a trip before commencing another journey.
