The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift, from Ehimembano, Imo State, after a viral video showed her attempting to harm a young girl with a knife.

The incident occurred on July 5, 2026, at IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, where the suspect resides. According to police investigation, Gift attempted to kill her 12-year-old niece, Miss Ebo Chimamanda, who also lives with her, because the girl refused to spread clothes as instructed before the suspect left for the market.

The investigation further revealed that the suspect had repeatedly beaten and threatened to kill the young girl. Operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuahia, responded to actionable intelligence, rescued the victim, and recovered the knife used in the attack.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and the suspect will be charged with attempted murder upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Police Command condemned such actions and urged the public to report similar incidents to the nearest police station.
