Abeokuta Golf Club Warms Up for Inaugural Tournament

The Abeokuta Golf Club in Ogun State, Nigeria, is gearing up for the Lady Captain Inaugural Tournament slated to take place on July, 2023.

The tournament will provide a challenging experience for both seasoned and new golfers from across the country, as they navigate the undulating terrain of the renowned Abeokuta Golf Club located at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

This special golf event will serve a dual purpose: bidding farewell to the previous Lady Captain, Afolashade Opawunmi, and welcoming the new Lady Captain, Alaba Adetunji. Opawunmi will be signing out, symbolizing the end of her term, while Adetunji will officially assume the leadership of the ladies’ division by signing in during the inaugural tournament.In an interview with our correspondent, Lady Captain Adetunji expressed that preparations for the tournament were well underway, adding that she and her committee were diligently working to ensure the success of the event.

Adetunji, a proud golfer from the Nigeria Police, reassured participants that they could expect a fair, enjoyable, and competitive game. The tournament will also include prizes for the winners, delectable food, and an overall enjoyable experience for all participants.

She said: “We are expecting a total of 200 golfers. As we approach the date slated for the ladies sign in and out, it is imperative to keep us abreast of the tournament guidelines.

“The format is stableford (Pls, pick your ball, if your next shot can’t give you a point). Draw will be out by Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.

“Friday is the arrival of guests for practice rounds, Do it yourself make-up class for ladies is by 5pm on same day while cocktail is by 7pm.

“On Saturday, the tournament tees-off by 6:40am. Breakfast starts from 6:30am, drinks on course is at hole 10 and hole just as lunch served at the club house from 12 noon. Closing Ceremony holds from 5pm with fish pepper soup.

“We have prizes across board. Men’s hcp 0 -14, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Hcp 15 – 28, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. For men’s vet 1st and 2nd. Award for the longest drive and nearest to the pin winners.

“As for the ladies hcp 0 – 18, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Hcp 19 – 36, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Ladies vet 1st and 2nd position only. Also, there is award for the longest drive and nearest to the pin.”
