How Police Inspector Aid Robbery in Ogun – Suspect

August 14, 2023 2 min read

A man arrested for alleged armed robbery in Ogun State has named one Inspector Ola as his supplier of arms and ammunition.

The 33-year-old suspect, Akeem Owonikoko, was arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police Command along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway on Sunday.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told newsmen in a statement that the suspect was arrested after a 24-hour operation led by the Ijebu-Ode Area Commander, ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi.

According to Odutola, the suspect, during interrogation, confessed and fingered the Police inspector, whom he simply identified as Ola, as the person who procured the guns they used to operate.

She explained that Owonikoko was travelling in a Toyota Camry inward Ijebu-Ode from Ososa, but he diverted into a close as soon as he sighted the police.

“The suspect, who disguised himself in a Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) uniform and was the mastermind of several nefarious crimes, attempted to outsmart the policemen, but he was arrested,” Odutola said.

A search of the vehicle he earlier abandoned led to the discovery of “a black cellophane bag containing 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges, and a locally fabricated shotgun.

“According to Odutola, a search warrant was also executed on his residence, where another magnum pump-action rifle, one double-barrel shotgun, one locally fabricated double-barrel pistol, a stunt pistol chocker, an unregistered silver-coloured Toyota Camry, and a green-coloured Toyota Sienna bus marked KNN 58 TD Ogun were recovered.

She added further that liquid chemicals, a black beret with the insignia of the Aiye Confraternity, cannabis, other hard drugs, an ATM card, one power bank, two cell phones, two Apple wristwatches, and poisonous charms were also recovered from his residence.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered his men to go after the remaining suspects.

Alamutu also ordered the suspect and exhibits recovered to be transferred to the State CIID for profiling and forensic examination.
