Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State governor, has written a letter to the state’s House of Assembly, informing it of the extension of his medical leave.

The governor who is currently ill and receiving treatment in the hospital had earlier informed the Assembly of his medical leave on June 5, 2023, and was supposed to resume last July 6, but could not do so..

The Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed the letter.

Mr Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, in a statement, said the governor could not resume as he was following the instructions of his doctor to take adequate rest after recuperating.

The speaker who received the letter on behalf of other lawmakers, said the governor’s action was in line with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The statement read: β€œHis (Akeredolu’s) deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa would continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”

The speaker, who appreciated God for the speedy recovery of the governor, expressed optimism that he would soon resume duty.
