IBADAN — Allied health professionals at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, have suspended their ongoing industrial action for two weeks following intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals suspended the strike with effect, after the Federal Government intervened in the dispute between the workers and the hospital management.
The union’s decision was communicated following discussions involving representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The industrial action had been linked to a dispute surrounding the position of Adeyinka Ishola, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the hospital.
The union said the two-week suspension would allow further discussions to take place and provide an opportunity for the issues surrounding the dispute to be addressed.
Members of the union have consequently been directed to return to their duties while negotiations continue.
The suspension is expected to restore normal services in departments affected by the strike at the tertiary health institution.
However, the union has indicated that the two-week period is intended to allow the Federal Government to intervene and resolve the matter.
The development comes after the UCH chapter of the union began an indefinite strike over the dispute involving the hospital management and the Director of Pharmaceutical Services.
