Anambra State Police Command has stepped up security preparations ahead of the planned visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with security agencies commencing the first phase of a comprehensive assessment of strategic locations across the state.
The exercise, being conducted in collaboration with other security and safety agencies, is part of the Command’s proactive and intelligence-led strategy to identify potential vulnerabilities and ensure that existing security arrangements are adequate ahead of the First Lady’s visit.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to conduct comprehensive security assessments within their respective Areas of Responsibility. The officers were also instructed to immediately address any security gaps identified during the exercise.
According to the Command, the assessment is designed to validate existing security arrangements while strengthening preparedness across locations that may be affected by the visit. The Police said it is working closely with sister security and safety agencies to ensure that the state remains secure, orderly and incident-free throughout the period of the First Lady’s visit.
CP Ama also appealed to residents, motorists, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel and comply with lawful directives during the exercise and the visit. He further urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities that could pose a threat to public safety.
The Command’s preparations come as Anambra gets set to receive the First Lady, with security authorities determined to leave little to chance. The ongoing assessment is expected to help security agencies identify and close possible gaps before the visit, while ensuring that normal activities across the state are not unnecessarily disrupted.
