President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s maritime sector and unlocking the economic potential of the Marine and Blue Economy.
Tinubu stated this when he received the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at the State House in Abuja.
During the meeting, Mobereola briefed the President on developments within NIMASA over the past two years, outlining the agency’s progress as well as challenges still confronting the maritime industry.
The President said the establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate step towards unlocking Nigeria’s maritime potential and increasing the sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP.
Tinubu also commended NIMASA for the progress recorded so far and charged Mobereola and his management team to sustain the momentum, strengthen regulation, safety and capacity development, and continue working towards a more efficient and globally competitive maritime industry.
The meeting forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to position Nigeria’s maritime sector as a major driver of economic growth and strengthen the country’s position as a leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.
