The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu ignored calls for his removal following the death of a nurse at his country home in Ebonyi State, instead urging him to focus on infrastructure development.
Speaking on the incident, Umahi stated that the President’s response was a directive to continue his work on road construction across the country. The nurse, whose name has not been officially disclosed, was found dead at Umahi’s residence in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, in July 2026.
The Ebonyi State Police Command had requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death, despite the family’s refusal. The police overruled the family’s objection, stating that the autopsy was necessary as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death continued.
The Minister’s comments have sparked renewed debate about the incident and the government’s handling of the matter.
