The Ondo State Government has formally issued a warrant of enlistment to officers of the Amotekun Security Network, officially recognising them as state civil servants and significantly improving their welfare package.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa approved the increase of Amotekun personnel salaries from N30,000 to N100,000, while also enrolling all officers in the state pension scheme and health insurance programme.
The development follows a series of online campaigns and public pressure over the state’s handling of Amotekun personnel welfare. The move effectively makes Ondo State the first in the South-West to fully integrate Amotekun officers into the state civil service with full benefits.
The announcement comes amid growing criticism of the Oyo State Government, which is now the only state in the South-West yet to formally recognise its Amotekun personnel as civil servants, with officers still awaiting their appointment and confirmation letters despite receiving hazard allowances.
