The Federal Government has announced plans to unveil 11 pharmaceutical manufacturing projects in 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen local drug production and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported medicines.

The initiative forms part of the implementation of the Presidential Executive Order on Health Products, which is aimed at expanding domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing, improving access to essential medicines, and strengthening the country’s healthcare value chain.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the government has already granted more than ₦6 billion in tax waivers to 47 pharmaceutical manufacturers, while 115 companies have been enrolled in the incentive programme to support increased local production.

The planned projects are expected to boost Nigeria’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity, create jobs, improve medicine security, and enhance the availability of locally produced drugs across the country.
