Tinubu Reveals How He Sacrificed His Senate Ambition for Fashola’s Victory – “I Told Ganiyu to Fill the Form, He Was Shocked”

In a stunning revelation, President Bola Tinubu has shared the untold story of how he sacrificed his Senate ambition to ensure Babatunde Fashola’s victory in the 2007 Lagos State governorship election.

“I had obtained and filled the INEC form to go to the Senate, then I realised that I have a Governorship candidate, Mr Babatunde Fashola, and Obasanjo was the President, determined to win Lagos state,” Tinubu recounted.

The President explained that he faced a critical choice: pursue his own Senate seat or focus on securing Lagos for Fashola. “I told myself, ‘if I go ahead, I will strive to win my seat while leaving Fashola to his fate’,” he said.

In a dramatic turn, he called his ally Ganiyu Solomon and flew with him to Abuja to withdraw his Senate form and hand it to Solomon. “Ganiyu was shocked, he asked me for what sir, I said fill the form, he did and that was how I was able to concentrate in the Governorship election. Fashola won and Gani also won his seat,” Tinubu declared.

He concluded with a powerful message: “We must make sacrifices.”

The revelation has sparked a fresh wave of admiration for Tinubu’s political mastery, with many hailing his selflessness as the secret to his enduring influence.
