TYF PAC Condemn Terrorist Attack in Kwara State

PRESS STATEMENT BY THINK YORUBA FIRST POLITICAL ACTION GROUP (TYF PAC) ON THE KILLING IN KWARA STATE

Think Yoruba First Political Action Group (TYF PAC) is deeply saddened by the recent killing in Kwara State. We extend our condolences to the family of the victim(s) and to the affected community. The loss of any life is painful and unacceptable.
We call on the relevant security agencies to carry out a full, open, and fair investigation so that justice can be served. The protection of lives must always remain a primary responsibility of government.
This tragic incident once again draws attention to the deeper challenges facing Nigeria. Repeated violence across different parts of the country shows that the current system of governance is no longer effective in managing our diverse ethnic and linguistic realities or guaranteeing safety at the local level.
Kwara State reflects Nigeria’s diversity, with communities of different ethnic and language backgrounds living side by side. When governance structures are too centralized and disconnected from local realities, communities are left exposed, and conflicts become harder to prevent or control.
TYF PAC therefore reiterates its position that Nigeria urgently needs to be restructured along ethnic and linguistic lines. Such restructuring will allow governance to better reflect the identities of the people and bring decision-making closer to local communities.
We also believe that local communities must be allowed and empowered to secure their territories. Community-based and regional security structures, working within the law, will improve early response, accountability, and trust, and will better protect lives than an over-centralized system.
We emphasize that restructuring along ethnic lines and allowing local security control is not about division or exclusion. It is about fairness, responsibility, and building a stable and peaceful country where every group feels safe and respected.
TYF PAC therefore calls for:
A transparent investigation into the killing in Kwara State and justice for the victim(s).
Immediate steps to strengthen security and protect local communities.
An open national dialogue on restructuring Nigeria along ethnic and linguistic lines, including the right of communities to secure their territories.
Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength, not conflict. Addressing the root causes of insecurity through honest dialogue and meaningful restructuring is now a matter of urgency.
