Anthony Joshua Considers Retirement After Fatal Ogun Crash That Killed Two Associates

World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is considering retirement from professional boxing following a fatal road accident in Ogun State that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.

Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, disclosed this on Monday, saying the 36-year-old boxer communicated his decision privately to family members in the aftermath of the crash, which occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Sagamu Interchange.

“The major thing is that he has retired from boxing,” Adedamola Joshua said during a visit to the family home in Sagamu. When asked if the boxer clearly confirmed the decision, he replied, “Yes.”

The accident involved a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his team. Two passengers, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, died at the scene, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, noting that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing. The police also confirmed that the driver has been charged in court, though he denied reckless driving and attributed the accident to brake failure.

Family sources revealed that Joshua has pledged lifelong support to the families of the deceased. He attended an emotional funeral service for both men at the London Central Mosque, where Islamic funeral prayers were held before their burial rites.

Residents of Sagamu expressed gratitude that the boxer survived the crash while mourning the loss of the two victims, describing Joshua as a source of pride to the community.

Joshua has yet to make an official public announcement regarding his future in boxing.
