The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has put on hold plans to begin enforcement of its tinted-glass permit policy, citing a court order that temporarily bars the implementation.

The enforcement originally slated to take effect on January 2, 2026 will not proceed pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit, or until the injunction is vacated, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Thursday.

Hundeyin said the force acted in compliance with the court’s directive and would await the judicial outcome before resuming any enforcement action.

He advised motorists and members of the public to take note of the suspension.

The tinted-glass permit regulation, which had attracted public attention in recent weeks, requires vehicle owners who use darkened windows to obtain official authorisation.

Proponents said the measure is intended to enhance road safety and curb criminal misuse of heavily tinted vehicles, while critics argued it raised enforcement and privacy concerns objections that reportedly formed the basis of the legal challenge.
