Mother of two abducted as Fulani terrorist demand N50m ransom

Fulani terrorist have abducted a mother of two in Ekiti State and demanded a ransom of N50 million for her release, sparking pleas for help from her family and community leaders.

The victim, identified as Hannah, was kidnapped on Wednesday while travelling from Egbe in Kogi State to Ikole-Ekiti for a job interview. A family source said she was unemployed at the time of her abduction and had no means of raising the huge ransom demanded by her captors.

According to the source, the kidnappers contacted Hannah’s mother to make the N50m demand. “We are pleading for mercy. There is no way we can raise such an amount. We are very poor and needy,” the family member said.

Hannah, an indigene of Irele-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area, was reportedly kidnapped alongside other travellers, including a motorcycle rider conveying her. Local sources said several people were taken during the attack, which occurred along the Ogbe–Irele axis.

Community sources disclosed that three male victims later escaped from the kidnappers’ camp, although two sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were said to have made their way to Irele-Ekiti and were taken to Ikole General Hospital for treatment.

The incident has heightened fear in the affected communities, with leaders calling on Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to intervene urgently. Chief Abejide Kehinde appealed to the state government to assist in rescuing the abducted woman, warning that residents’ lives were increasingly at risk.

Residents also lamented the absence of police stations in the area, noting that the region has remained vulnerable to repeated attacks for years.

Community leaders alleged that the kidnappers operate from a forest stretching across Ekiti, Kogi and parts of Kwara State, which they described as a major hideout used to detain victims abducted from different states.

As of press time, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while relatives of the victim said they were still waiting for further contact from the kidnappers.
