Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ahmed Farouk, accusing him of corruption, abuse of office, and financial impropriety.

In the petition submitted through his legal counsel, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, Dangote urged the ICPC to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Farouk, alleging that the NMDPRA chief has been living far beyond his legitimate means as a public servant. Dangote claimed that Farouk expended over 7 million dollars on the education of his four children in different schools in Switzerland, paying upfront for a period of six years.

According to the petition, Farouk has spent his entire adult working life in Nigeria’s public sector, and his total earnings over the years, Dangote argued, could not reasonably account for such expenditure. Dangote alleged that there is no evidence of lawful income that could justify the scale of spending attributed to the NMDPRA boss.

The industrialist further accused Farouk of using the instrumentality of the NMDPRA to embezzle and divert public funds for personal enrichment and the pursuit of private interests, actions he said were detrimental to the Nigerian people. Dangote claimed that these alleged practices have contributed to recent public uproar and protests by various groups within the oil and gas downstream sector.

Dangote stated that he is prepared to be physically present and provide documentary and other evidence to substantiate his allegations of corrupt enrichment and abuse of office against Farouk as investigations proceed.
