Armed bandits on Wednesday evening launched an attack on the Gaa Fulani community in Iye-Mero, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, abducting several residents and stealing valuables before they were intercepted by local security operatives.

The incident, which occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on December 3, 2025, threw the quiet border settlement into chaos as the attackers invaded homes, carting away mobile phones, ATM cards, cash, clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery and wristwatches.

According to community sources, the assailants were confronted shortly after the operation by members of the Iye-Mero community security network, who received immediate reinforcement from soldiers stationed within the axis.

A prolonged exchange of gunfire followed, with heavy shooting reported around the forested areas linking Ekiti, Kwara and Kogi states. Security operatives eventually overpowered the attackers and successfully rescued all abducted victims.

Authorities have yet to release the number of bandits involved, while security agencies are said to be intensifying surveillance across the border communities to prevent further incursions.
