The Edo State Police Command says it has intensified efforts to secure the release of a couple kidnapped in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area, after distress videos of the victims surfaced on social media.

The couple, believed to be indigenes of the area, appeared in several clips pleading for help as their abductors allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦50 million. Another video showed the kidnappers issuing threats and putting pressure on the victims’ family.

Police spokesperson Moses Yamu said in a statement on Friday that operatives immediately opened an investigation and activated a rescue operation once the incident was reported. He added that the command is determined to track down all individuals involved and ensure they are prosecuted.

The police urged residents to remain calm and report any useful information that could assist the ongoing operation.
