Thirty-seven kidnap victims abducted in recent attacks across Katsina State have regained their freedom after a series of negotiations between community representatives and the bandits responsible for the abductions.
The victims, who were taken from different villages during armed raids over the past week, were released late Thursday. Local sources told reporters that the negotiations were led by families of the abductees, community leaders, and mediators familiar with bandit networks operating in the area. Although the exact terms agreed upon were not disclosed, sources described the discussions as “intense and prolonged.”
Upon their release, the victims comprising men, women, and children were moved to a safe location where they are currently undergoing medical evaluation and debriefing. Community leaders said arrangements are being made for their formal reunification with their families.
Katsina State remains one of the most affected by these persistent security threats. Despite repeated military operations and government-backed security interventions, bandit groups continue to maintain strongholds in remote forest areas, complicating efforts to restore normalcy.
