President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed Nigerians following a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, assuring citizens of Nigeria’s commitment to peace, security, and unity.
In his statement, President Tinubu said the discussion with President Trump was constructive and candid, emphasizing that both leaders agreed on prioritizing peace over conflict and hope over fear. He noted that both sides would take the necessary steps to address the concerns raised, which he described as genuine.
The President reiterated that the Nigerian government remains committed to ensuring the security and protection of every citizen, regardless of faith or origin, and stressed that this is a fundamental principle of state policy. He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the United States to leverage existing security cooperation and mutual interests to prevent any incidents that threaten citizens’ rights.
Tinubu assured Nigerians that tangible actions would be taken in the coming days, reflecting a decisive shift from previous unfulfilled promises. He urged citizens to continue their lawful activities with confidence, noting that security agencies are prepared to address challenges anywhere in the federation.
Acknowledging past frustrations with government performance, President Tinubu said these concerns have been taken as lessons in accountability and responsibility. He also reaffirmed his commitment, along with President Trump, to strengthening enduring diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States.
The President concluded by calling on all Nigerians to uphold the country’s motto of “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress” and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the ongoing dialogue and mutual understanding.
