BREAKING NEWS: OBASA’S SON, GANIU, TAKES OVER AS AGEGE COUNCIL CHAIRMAN AFTER AZEEZ’S SHOCK RESIGNATION

A major political shakeup has hit Agege Local Government as Ganiu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has officially taken over as Chairman following the sudden resignation of Hon. Tunde Azeez, popularly known as Disco, barely 100 days in office.

Azeez, who cited health challenges as the reason for his resignation, had been on medical leave for weeks, during which Ganiu served as acting chairman. His formal exit has now cleared the path for Ganiu to assume full leadership of the council.

However, the development has stirred controversy within the ruling party, as insiders allege that the transition was a long-orchestrated political plan. Sources told Lagos Reporters that Speaker Obasa initially sought the party’s backing for his son to contest as chairman, but the move was rejected. He later supported his close ally, Azeez, to clinch the ticket, while his son was nominated as vice chairman.

Barely weeks after Azeez assumed office, he proceeded on medical leave, leaving Ganiu in control, a sequence now seen by many observers as part of a calculated arrangement to install the Speaker’s son as council boss.

Despite the political undercurrents, some residents have lauded Ganiu Obasa’s leadership style during his acting tenure, particularly his efforts in improving sanitation and environmental cleanliness, an area they claim had suffered under previous administrations.

As he formally takes over the reins of leadership, public attention is now fixed on how Ganiu will balance governance with growing scrutiny over his rise to power.
