ISLAMIC MOVEMENT TO TRUMP: NIGERIA’S PROBLEM IS CORRUPTION, NOT CHRISTIAN GENOCIDE

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), led by Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that the Nigerian government is enabling a “genocide against Christians”.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Abdullahi Danladi of the movement’s resource forum described Trump’s remarks as false, inflammatory, and capable of inciting religious division in the country.

Danladi said the IMN has always stood for peaceful coexistence, justice, and unity among all Nigerians, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

He maintained that Nigeria’s crisis is rooted in corruption, greed, and political manipulation, not religion.

Quoting Zakzaky, he said: “The poor Christian and the poor Muslim have no conflict; their common enemy is the unjust system that enslaves them both.”

Danladi also accused Western powers of promoting divisive narratives to destabilise African nations, saying the so-called “Christian genocide” narrative is part of a wider propaganda campaign aimed at undermining Nigeria’s internal cohesion.

He urged Nigerians to resist foreign attempts to pit citizens against one another along religious lines, insisting that “unity and justice remain the only path to peace and national progress.”
