Elon Musk Unveils ‘Grokipedia’ to Rival Wikipedia

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new online encyclopedia called Grokipedia, designed to compete with the popular crowdsourced platform, Wikipedia.

The new platform, developed by Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, was officially unveiled on Monday, October 27, 2025. Grokipedia, which Musk described as “a more truthful and independent source of information,” is powered by xAI’s chatbot, Grok.

According to reports, the website went live with about 885,000 articles, compared to Wikipedia’s more than seven million English-language entries. The launch version, tagged “v0.1,” crashed briefly due to high traffic but was later restored.

Unlike Wikipedia, which allows open editing from volunteer contributors, Grokipedia’s articles are generated and managed by AI, with users only able to submit suggestions or flag errors through a feedback form. Some entries reportedly include content adapted from Wikipedia under a Creative Commons license.

Musk, who has frequently accused Wikipedia of political bias, said Grokipedia aims to provide balanced, AI-curated information free from what he called “editorial manipulation.”

However, early reactions have been mixed. Critics raised concerns about accuracy, ideological slant, and transparency, with some noting that certain articles feature conservative-leaning narratives.

The launch underscores Musk’s broader ambition to reshape digital knowledge-sharing and challenge existing information ecosystems through AI innovation.
