Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday when a two-storey building collapsed at No. 54 Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, near UBA Bank in Oyingbo, Lagos.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) confirmed the incident, stating that a distress call was received at 12:20 a.m. Rescue teams from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station arrived at the scene within minutes, commencing emergency operations by 12:29 a.m.
According to the Controller General of the LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, 15 persons have been rescued so far, including seven adult males, four adult females, and four children, all with varying degrees of injuries.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, as several people are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Authorities have cordoned off the area while emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the police, continue rescue efforts amid growing tension among residents.
