The Lagos State Government has successfully installed the final Ductile Cast Iron (DCI) pipe in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project, marking a major milestone in the multi-billion-naira infrastructure development.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the progress in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, describing it as a “significant step” toward improving access to potable water across the state.
According to Wahab, the final pipe—number 944—was installed on Friday, October 24, completing the 8km transmission line that extends to Akute. The project, when completed, will deliver approximately 70 million gallons of potable water daily to residents.
“Step by step, we are rebuilding and expanding Lagos’ water supply network to meet the needs of our growing population,” Wahab wrote.
The Adiyan II Water Project, located between Lagos and Ogun states, has been under construction for over a decade and is expected to provide a long-term solution to Lagos’ persistent water supply challenges.
In a previous update, Wahab disclosed that the project was at 98 per cent completion, with minor adjustments being made to ensure efficiency and adherence to the project timeline.
He reiterated that the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, aimed at delivering sustainable infrastructure and improving the living standards of Lagos residents.
When completed, the 320,000 cubic metres-per-day water treatment plant will significantly close the state’s water supply gap and restore consistent access to clean, pipe-borne water for households across the metropolis.
