The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has warned loan apps and other businesses against harassing or intimidating Nigerians over unpaid debts.

The commission, in a statement, urged consumers to promptly report any form of harassment, intimidation, or rights violation by such lenders.

The warning follows rising complaints about aggressive debt recovery practices, including threatening phone calls, text messages, and public shaming on social media.

Reaffirming its commitment to consumer protection, the FCCPC stated that “no consumer should live in fear,” stressing that violators will face strict sanctions.

It further encouraged Nigerians to lodge complaints through its official website and social media platforms, assuring that swift action would be taken against offending companies.
